Are business travel hotel rates under pressure?

it was only a matter of time – – – – – – – –

and then – – – – – As we subscribe to Groupon deals purely to see what our clients if any, are up to, and scold them(!!!) – – – – – where has rate integrity gone?

I randomly tried to compare Groupon deals at a number of hotels, and found that the base rate for the so called ‘saving’ was way in excess of the best rate which could be got for the same deal on the hotel’s website.  On one example, the ‘package’ of £99 which was a saving of  60% over the ‘value’ of £250 – could be booked on line directly with the hotel website for £125, like for like, and on one or two dates, less than £99!
